PROBLEMS OF ELECTION IN NIGERIA BY UWHEJEVWE-TOGBOLO SAMUEL EMAIL: mfyai@yahoo.com

July 12, 2007

Nigeria is a country with device ethnic group and corrugated different political motive ranging from the individual perspective to the political parties. What is really wrong with Nigeria electioneering process is the wheel to be on power at all cost not minding the interest of the masses, every political party that is on power want to retain power for their selfish interest, while doing this, they map out strategies that will enable them to rig the election either by crook or hook, this things are not mostly peculiar with the Nigeria system alone but is common due to the fact that most of the leaders even come out openly to declare their stands to fight with their last breath to win election. During the campaign of the last election the immediate past President Chief Olusegun Obasanjo once stated that " Peoples Democratic Party (P.D.P.). will surely produce the next President no matter the hurdles" with this, one will quickly deduce the fact that the election was a charade because INEC has been tailored along the line of P.D.P. candidate even if the party brings a weakling as their presidential candidate, in this regard the job of INEC is to... There is also a case whereby; their sponsors after been caught by law enforcement agent are denying some of them in their words " I have not seen this man before in my life" what a big slap on such a youth... This is a canker worm that as eaten so deep into our nation and need to be stopped by all before it gets out of hand. To achieve the needed progress, is for our leaders and the led to be sincere and call a spade and spade. As the saying goes "An angry man is an angry man" which implies "...

May 22, 2007

Democracy is the best form of government that can solve the problem of the people in a particular country, democracy in Nigeria as gone a long way and is still going through the part of perfection. In our country today, democracy is passing through a lot of trials that needed every citizen in the country to defend the nascent democracy with all they have without compromise because if we fail to do so, our own shadow is going to chase us till the end of time. The worst of it all is that our children yet on born will have to pay the price by serving the children of these politicians who are bent on instilling their children as kings in the political land space thereby suppressing the genuine once that will move the nation forward. We have to change our orientation in order to defend our democracy, taking into cognizance the forth coming election, which will begin on the 14th of April 2007, this is the time to reposition Nigeria for the future and a wise vote will make the difference.

In the dictionary definition, democracy "is government by the people in which the supreme power...

May 22, 2007

Niger Delta is a vast land in the federating states of Nigeria; the region is occupied by different groups of people. The Niger Delta region is made up of six (6) out of the 36 states in Nigeria including the federal capital territory. These are Akwa Ibom, Bayelsa, Cross River, Delta, Edo, and Rivers States. The estimated population of the region is about 20 million comprising of different ethnic groups speaking different dialects across various communities.

The predominant occupation in the area is farming and fishing. Before the advent of oil, the people were solely involved in fishing and farming businesses. Since the discovery of oil in the region, the area has been the economic base of the country for foreign exchange earnings. With this aforementioned the region has been neglected by the federal Government and the oil companies operating in the area. Ordinarily, for one to have from such a fertile land would have been a source of Joy and Happiness; rather it has inflicted pain and suffering on the people in the area.

Niger delta is blessed with human and natural resources for the benefit of all and the host communities in particular. The question is; Are the...
